A smartphone is a mobile unit that provides advanced features and modern, often with PC-type functions. The smart phone has no industry standard definition. For a number of people, a smartphone is a mobile device operating with a full version of the operating system, providing a standard platform and the interface for application developers.
For others, a smartphone is just a cell phone with very modern features such as Internet, email and reading skills. There are other features like an external USB keyboard, an integrated keyboard and a VGA connector. It is simply a small computer with a capacity of 3G phone. The remainder of the mobile telephony market has been overtaken by smartphones. These devices have large screens, the open source operating systems, processors and memory is abundant.

There is really no meaning or definition of the smart phone industry. The descriptions have changed greatly over time.
